Say hello to Kim! 👋🏻

It was so wonderful to work with her on her brand photos! Keep scrolling to hear more about her photoshoot experience and take a look at the photos from our session together.

Tell us a little about yourself!

I am a singer, voice teacher, higher ed administrator, and student in Boston, MA. I'm a dog mom and foodie, with a soft spot for Kombucha and craft beer. I'm also an avid hiker, so I like to think I'm equal parts tulle and muddy hiking boots.

Why did you need new photos? What do you plan to use them for?

I took some time off from teaching voice and am opening my studio again! I also needed new headshots for upcoming auditions and promotional materials for scheduled performances.

After having some time away from music and growing so much as a person, the photos I had no longer showed the full extent of my personality and who I am as an artist and teacher. I needed something more lively and fun, while still showing my "leading lady" side.

What was the main reason you chose Meredith Hart Photography for your photo session?

Her work with past clients! My friend and colleague Shaunna worked with Meredith for her recent headshots, and they were gorgeous. They really captured the essence of who she was as a person, mom, and artist. Meredith's passion for working with musicians (especially singers!) comes through in her work.

What was it like working with Meredith?

Working with Meredith was so much fun! She wasn't afraid to be silly and play with different ideas. She doesn't micromanage poses and encourages natural movement. It was a wonderful experience and unlike any other photo sessions I've done.

How did you choose what to wear?

I started with the color palette for my website and went from there. I knew I needed to incorporate my Dr. Martens (subtle queer coding 😋) and wanted to contrast that with something ultra feminine. The tulle skirt had the movement I was looking for and I knew an off-the-shoulder black would be a great neutral and showcase my face.

I wanted the more formal shots to be neutral so I could pair them with any future marketing regardless of branding colors. I chose a shape that I knew accentuated my assets and minimized my insecurities. Above all, I wanted to portray my fun, feminine side, with my serious "I AM TOSCA" persona.

What advice would you give someone if they were on the fence about getting professional photos taken?

No matter what industry you are in, having a great set of photos to work with is a game-changer. They can take you from an anonymous worker bee to someone who has something to say, and the visual components to back that up. It is also such a wonderful way to boost your confidence and declare yourself as a professional in your field.
